Embracing the Orient

The exhibition features 200 objects from 24 Italian museums and 18 additional works from the National Museum of China. It investigates the relations between Chinese and Italian artists from the 12th to the 16th century. Comparing these works allows to identify and discover Chinese influence on Renaissance art and vice versa. In 1200, setting sail from Venice, Marco Polo had finally reached China, which at the time was ruled by Kublai Khan who had made it a prosperous and rich country. Seventy years later he brought back the wonders of the East and opened to centuries of travel along the Silk Road. The exhibition is therefore an opportunity to grasp the complex dynamics of multicultural integration between civilizations.
