The exhibition is curated by Andrea Bellieni, director of the Correr Museum in Venice, and presents a comprehensive overview of Venetian painting from the 15th to the 18th century. 77 works including painting and sculpture were generously loaned from the most important museums in Italy: the Municipal Museums and the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the Uffizi Galleries, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Rome, the Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Venezia, the Galleria Spada, the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca and the Musei Capitolini in Rome. The exhibition narrative begins in the early Renaissance (Mantegna, Vivarini, Gentile Bellini, Giovanni Bellini, Cima da Conegliano and Carpaccio). It then covers the 16th century (Giorgione, Titian, Savoldo, Lotto, Veronese, Tintoretto, Bassano), the Baroque period and Rococò through the rediscoverty of classicism (Sebastiano Ricci, Rosalbda Carriera, Piazzetta). Works by Pietro Longhi and Giambattista Tiepolo will also be shown.
