Raphael. Poetry in Portraits

Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts
Russia, Moscow
September 12, 2016 - December 11, 2016

Days of exhibition

This exibition represents the beginning of a cultural partnership between the Pushkin Museum and the Uffizi Galleries. Some of Raphael’s most important works will be shown in Russia for the first time. The artist and his work have had a particular influence on Russian culture, as testified by the frequent citations in some of its greatest works of literature, from Pushkin to Dostoevskij and Tolstoj to contemporary authors and poets. The exhibition narrative is focused on the poetry in portraits and wishes to show the apex of perfection embodied by Rapahel and transferred to the faces of his subjects. The exhibition is curated by Marzia Faietti, Curator of the Uffizi’s Department of Prints and Drawings, and Victoria Markova, Curator of Italian Painting at the Pushkin Museum, under the scholarly supervision of the Director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt.
